Little Bits' 4th Hatchling
An Albino White American
Budgie, pretty & spunky

Anne Marie (Continued)

When Anne Marie hatched, Jeanne and I were worried that she may have been "blind," because we could not see any sign of her eye on either side of her head. We called Melinie LeMay, who told us that often Albino White birds will not show any signs of an eye, because their eye is clear, unlike the black eyes of the Non-Albino Whites. We had forgotten that both Lucy and her younger sister, Marie who were also Albino Whites, had no apparent signs of an eye on either side of their respective heads when they hatched. After about 10 days, Anne Marie opened her eyes and then we knew for certain that she was an Abino. An Albinos' eyes do not have any pigmentation; therefore, their eyes appear to be "Red," when in fact, what we are actually seeing are the blood vessels in the retina of their eyes.

Shortly after Anne Marie was old enough to eat seed by herself and to emerge from the nest box, Jeanne and I took all three of Little Bits II's hatchlings, including Anne Marie, to show to Jeanne's mom and dad. Anne Marie curled up in Jeanne's mom's hand and went to sleep, just like it was the most natural thing for Anne Marie to do!
To say the very least,Anne Marie won over Jeanne's mother, and she endeared herself to us as well.

Shortly after both Jeanne Marie and Anne Marie left the nest box, Jeanne Marie, Anne Marie's older brother, by only 3 days, thought that Anne Marie was Jeanne Marie's mate. Baby birds most often forget their parents and the relationships which the baby birds have with their siblings. Jeanne Marie was jealous of any attention paid to Anne Marie, even from Jeanne and me! The two of them never attempted to mate, but nevertheless, Jeanne and I thought that it would be better if we separated Jeanne Marie from his little sister. Jeanne put Jeanne Marie and  his dad-Big Bird, and several other males into a cage by themselves, because all that they wanted to do was to mate. Jeanne Marie, Big Bird, Audacity, and Mandilynne are in a cage by themselves to this very day!

Anne Marie loves to flirt with the other maies in the other cages. She is very spunky and loves to "play-fight" with me, but she doesn't bite; she just pretends like she is going to bite. I tease her as much as she teases me. She is not mean, and I do not intend to make her mean. Like her great grandmother, "Miss Marie" Anne Marie is a charming bird, and I love her very much.
