"Eulogies to our Departed Birds" Supplement #1.
|
An INTRODUCTION to the Eulogies to our Birds
Let it be known that just because I have not written an individual eulogy to each and every one of our departed babies, it is not meant to be construed that we loved them any less. Some of our babies died many years ago, and it is difficult to write eulogies for each one. Some of our eulogies have been lost, like "Our Eulogy to Our Mandy Jeanne."
Therefore, I have prepared a list of our babies whose Spirits have left us to go to the Spirit World.
I have dispersed each individual eulogy along with each individual bird to which our eulogy belongs...
The Prophet, Joseph Smith, Jr., once said that the animals also have souls and will report to the Lord Jesus Christ how each of them were treated. I want each of our departed babies to know that we love you very much and have often cried at your death, as we will now cry at your burial.

Alexa's Eulogy
Little one, it is with great sadness that I write your Eulogy. Jeanne saw the badly mite infested right side of your face when we went to buy birds from Carroll Myers. It looked as though your face was badly burned. You had little or no feathers on the side of your face, and you could just barely see out of your right side because the cysts were so large.
The cysts reminded me of “blinders” on a horse's leather rig, which were made so that the horse could only see what was in front of the horse. Jeanne said that the tissue on your face was inflamed and very painful. We told Mr. Myers of your situation and bought you immediately, on Saturday, 26 September 2009, along with Sweetums, and Candace, who were also in very serious condition, health wise. Jeanne nursed you back to health, and slowly you recovered. There was very little evidence of the mite induced cyst on your face, and that was just below your right eye. Your feathers had grown back in, and your yellow head was beautiful. What a tragedy it was to lose you after the two months that Jeanne cared for you and especially when we both picked you up and loved you. You must certainly know that you were both loved and wanted! Please give our love to our babies on the Other Side of the Veil.
Good-bye for now, Alexa. We love and miss you!

Gray Ray's Eulogy
Although Jeanne did not have any intention of buying any more birds, we went to the Alamo Exhibition Bird Show on Saturday, 26 September 2009 and came home with seven birds, including you. Jeanne loves Gray birds, and she chose you and named you after her very special Oral Surgeon, Dr. Ray Kaercher. She thought that you were Sweetums, since you were both in the same hospital cage. As she fed you, you abruptly stuck your upper bill inside of your lower beak and quickly died, why we do not know. We are both deeply saddened at your death and trust that you are happy on the other side of the Veil. Please give our love to all of our babies on the other side.
We love you and miss you, Gray Ray. Goodbye for now, little one, until we meet you once again.

Joseph Smith's Eulogy
I was shocked when Jeanne brought your lifeless body to me yesterday, 17 June 09 and told me that you died in her hands. You were named for the Prophet of this, the Dispensation of the Fullness of Times, Joseph Smith, Jr., and like McKay, you should be proud of your name. You were already at least seven years of age when we bought you from Carroll Myers on 21 April 2009, because your leg band indicated that your were hatched sometime in 2002. Your head was a bright yellow and you had a gorgeous green chest and wings. You and James E. Faust looked alike, although you were larger than Faust. I will call Carroll Myers to advise him that you have passed on, although again, we do not want him to replace you, because, like McKay, no bird can replace either of you in our hearts. We love you and miss you. Please give our love to all of our babies on the other side of the Veil. We eagerly look forward to meeting you and all of our babies on the other side of the Veil, and having you be our baby birds for all Eternity. Good-bye for now. Little one, know and remember that, in our hearts, you are neither gone nor forgotten.

McKay's Eulogy
Little fella, Jeanne and I bought you from Carroll Myers, because you looked a lot like our little Sherrie Dew. You both had green and yellow feathers, but your feathers were a darker green and yellow. We hoped that you would befriend her, but without any warning, you died on 21 April 2009, just two days after we bought you and brought you home. We called Carroll Myers to advise and he offered us a replacement, but no bird could replace you in our hearts. McKay, you were named for David O. McKay, a Prophet of the Lord, and you should be very proud of your name. We love you and miss you. Please give our love to all of our babies on the other side of the Veil. We eagerly look forward to meeting you and all of our babies on the Other Side and having you be our baby birds for all Eternity. Good-bye for now. Know that you are neither gone nor forgotten.

Mandi-Keet's Eulogy
Little One, you were with us for only a short time. Jeanne saw you in the cage with the other baby parakeets at the PetCo on Bandera Road, just inside Loop 1604. I noticed you sitting on the bottom of your cage, and you reminded Jeanne and me so much of our "Mandy Jeanne."
Jeanne bought you as an after thought because it appeared that your leg was hurt and because Jeanne was concerned that the other birds would further harm or even kill you.
You took to us from the very beginning, and we loved you at first sight. You stayed with us for only 27 days, from Friday, 28 September until Thursday night, 25 October 2007.
I better understand now, what the Savior meant when He told his disciples during His "Sermon on the Mount, "Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust doth corrupt, and where thieves break through and steal: But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break through and steal: For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also." *
You and all of our other babies are our treasures in heaven, and where all of you are, we want, some day, to be also, because our hearts are with you all!
May God Bless You and Keep You in His Constant Care Until We Meet and Raise You Once More.

EULOGY TO OUR “ADAM”
Little one, Jeanne named you “Adam” only because we wanted to have a proper name for you when we laid your little body to rest and also because we did not know if your were a “baby daddy” or a “baby mommy,” as Jeanne would say. You were hatched much too soon and could not survive the world outside of your egg. You only lived about one half of a day, due to your immature little body. We knew you in
the Pre-Existence and covenanted with you as with all of our babies to come to live with us. Although we have forgotten that we knew you and what we knew of you, we loved you then and love you still and look forward to meeting you on the other side, where we will meet and greet all of our babies.
Goodbye for now, little one, as you now have gone to live with Heavenly Father and Heavenly Mother Bird and await our return.
Like all of our other babies, you are gone, but not forgotten.

EULOGY TO OUR “CANDI”
Candi, Jeanne gave you the perfect name, because you were such a sweet bird, filled with love: love for your babies and love for us, who also loved you. I wrote a story some years ago and used you, your mother-Marie-and your grandmother-Buddy- to illustrate the strong chain of influence and loving gifts which made you the loving and caring bird that you were. Some may choose to call it animal instinct, but I rather choose to call it love and caring. When Teal bit Midge on his head, and Jeanne saved him, we were in a quandary with respect to how we were going to raise four little birds which were not ready to be weaned and to eat seed. Of these four little birds, Midge was the youngest. Our failure to adequately feed these little birds, and to keep them warm and to teach them to eat seed and to take care of themselves would have resulted in our losing them.
It is our understanding that the father bird may choose to feed his mate while she is nesting, it is not the normal pattern that the father bird will feed the nestlings if the mother bird dies or turns mean and harms them.
But you did not fit the normal pattern. We watched in amazement and with the greatest of joy as you fed each of the four babies and kept them
warm. When at last, each of them, from the oldest (Big Bird) to the youngest (Midge) was ready to leave the nest box and to eat seed and to learn how to take care if itself, you were their teacher, their mentor, their father and their friend. You were most assuredly from grandmother Buddy’s and mother Marie’s line.
Your beautiful blue-gray plumage and your sweet demeanor was very much like grandmother Buddy’s. Even with your less-than-optimal mate, “Teal” you produced at least 2 “high quality” babies out of the 4. “Midge” and “Third Bird” are very much like you. I cannot say the same for the other 2.
We miss you terribly and eagerly look forward to the day when you will once more be our bird. We will spend the millennium together and then all eternity. Until then, little one, rest in peace and give our love to “Buddy,” “Marie” and all of our other babies.

EULOGY TO OUR JAELYNN
Little One, we also miss you. You took us by surprise when you died suddenly. You were always a flighty bird, here one minute and gone the next. We bought you because you were so very beautiful with your powder blue feathers and silver wings. You always seemed to be so very aloof and not very easily tamed. But we loved you as much as we loved our other birds and will miss you.
Goodbye for now, Little One, and we look forward to seeing you again.

Eulogy To Our Larkin I.
Little fella, I feel responsible for your untimely death. I did not see you on the top of the cage in time to save you from either falling or being pushed off the cage. It wasn’t until Jeanne came home from work and found your cold body on the carpet, that I realized that you were missing. Please forgive me.
You were a very handsome English Budge, with your beautiful purple plumage and big black spots, and that was what attracted Jeanne to you at the bird show in October of 2002.
You were named after a very special person in our lives, Larkin Hastriter, who was our Home Teacher and a good friend. You also were very special to us, and we mourn our loss. Please give our love to all of our other babies on the other side.We look forward to seeing you again, and I will offer my personal apology to you.Goodbye for now. With all of our love.

EULOGY TO OUR PERIWINKLE
Little fella, we did not think that you would ever hatch. Your brother and two sisters used the egg you were in as a pillow. We waited and waited, and then one day, Jeannecalled me to come to the nest box. All Jeanne said was, “We got bird!” And there you were, all pink, naked and blind. We picked you up and talked to you and cared for you, until you were grown and mature enough to leave the nest box. Jeanne named you Periwinkle II, because we had already had a little bird which Jeanne had named Periwinkle , but who had died just six days after it had hatched.
You were always a spirited little bird who could never quite keep a tail feather. Youtook up with Kari-Mel after Rho-Rho died about three years ago. You took care of Kari-Mel when she was sick and when she died. You never had a mate of your own, but we always knew that you were special. “We got bird” is how we will always remember you.
Please say “hello” for us to all of our babies on the other side. We love and miss you just as we love and miss them and look forward with eager anticipation to seeing you and all of them on the other side of the veil. Good-bye for now, little friend, we miss you.
Hatched: 21 July 1999 Died: 9 January 2005 Buried: 3 April 2005
